Carolyn escaped in 2003 with eight children and 20 dollars to her name. She was the only woman to win full custody of her children after escaping the FLDS community.
But what happened to Merril Jessop?
Merril supposedly took 22 wives over the course of his time in the FLDS and two of them being underage, both being 16 years old. When the former president of the FLDS, Warren Jeffs, was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault of two underage girls in 2011. He gave his presidency and prophet-hood over to Merril Jessop. Jessop was one of the men that moved to another FLDS community in Texas called the "Yearning for Zion Ranch" where in 2008 was the target of a massive law enforcement and child welfare raid. Jessop was also arrested for 'conducting a marriage ceremony prohibited by law.' He married his twelve year old daughter to Warren Jeffs before his arrest. Jessop could be on parole until 2021.
